P.L.A.N. - 2-Day The Mentler Method Workshop
Building a successful drawing starts with having a well thought out P.L.A.N.. Michael Mentler’s Two-Day Hands-on Workshop on the C.S.I. Canon of Proportion provides a time tested blueprint for drawing the human form.

Attendees will learn the importance of PLACEMENT and the establishment of the PROSCENIUM. They will learn how to build a human figure using a unique system of PROPORTION developed by Robert Beverly Hale and incorporated into the Mentler Methode. This method allows one to capture the human form without relying solely on reference. PERSPECTIVE as it relates to drawing the human figure will also be demonstrated. The Mentler Methode forgoes the mimesis of shapes the stresses seeing in terms of PLANES and FORMS.
During this two-day workshop Michael Mentler will lecture and demonstrate his methodes in the morning, and students will practice drawing from the model in the afternoon. Personalized instruction with be provided during the practical portion of the workshop. This workshop is a part of a course of instruction by Michael Mentler, and to continue learning students may sign up for the 4-Day Life Drawing Werkstatt in April.
C.S.I. CANON OF PROPORTIONS will be demonstrated and explained in detail.
The identification of 26 skeletal LANDMARKS, and the location of ORIGIN AND INSERTION will be demonstrated on the skeleton and the model.
Using ASPECTS, i. e., ALIGNMENTS, ANGLES and AXES for comparative measurement will be explained and diagrammed.
Creating believable FORESHORTENING using NEGATIVE SHAPES in and integral part of the Mentler Method.

This workshop is loaded with information for experienced artists as well as serious amateurs. It goes beyond drawing what you see by showing you what to look for and provides you with the skill-sets necessary to become a better artist.
